Exhibitions, Grants, and Residencies for Fiber and Textile Artists

Every month, Textile Art Insider curates open calls, grants, residencies, and exhibitions relevant to textile and fiber artists.

Many opportunities do not explicitly say “textile art.” Contemporary fiber practices often intersect with sculpture, craft, installation, and mixed media. That means textile artists qualify for far more opportunities than most realize.

Below is a curated list of current opportunities with deadlines all the way from March through June, including residencies, fellowships, exhibitions, and grants. This gives you ample time to either apply to those with fast approaching deadlines or plan for the ones with latter deadlines.

Southcombe Barn Funded Residencies

Venue: Southcombe Barn

Generator’s Artist in Residence

Location:Burlington, Vermont

Application Deadline: Sunday, April 5th, 2026

Features: Generator’s Artist-in-Residence program supports creative exploration with access to resources, space, and opportunities to engage and inspire others. This residency provides a designated studio, tool training credit, and access to Generator’s 12,000+ square foot co-working/fabrication space in the heart of Burlington, Vermont’s South End Arts District.

Eligibility: Applicants must be Vermont residents, 18+ years. 

Residency Details: Selected artists will receive: 

• 6 months of FREE Generator Membership

• 3 months FREE studio rental at Generator

• $500 tool training credit

• A public showcase of you work at Generator

The summer residency will run from June through Nov, while the fall residency will run from September through February.

Features: Calling all artists who push the boundaries of textile and visual arts. “TEXTILES EXPLORATIONS” will be a show promoting textile artists and art enthusiasts who explore the versatile form of textile art through sculpture, installation, video, object, and performance, among other mediums. Eligibility: Artists must reside within the Lethbridge service area or demonstrate meaningful ties to the region.

Features/Focus:We are looking for 8 – 10 artists to create fibre work in any medium, including traditional, experimental, sculptural, and hybrid practices. Artists working with sewing, surface design, weaving, quilting, felting, crocheting, and more are welcome to apply.

Artist as Quilt Maker

Venue: Oberlin, Ohio

Eligibility:AQM is open to contemporary artists working in quilt-based practices. Hand-stitched works are especially encouraged; machine-stitched works will also be considered. Artists should submit images representing the work they intend to exhibit.

Focus: The Artist as Quilt Maker challenges the idea of quilts as purely domestic or decorative objects, presenting them instead as powerful works of contemporary art. This exhibition foregrounds contemporary quilt artists who continue to expand the form, affirming quilting as a vital and ongoing artistic practice.

Benefit: $20,000 prize

Feature:

The $20,000 DAG Prize for Visual Art is awarded annually to an emerging artist whose work contributes meaningfully to the evolution of visual art in the United States. Prize funds can be used for materials, studio space, exhibition costs, travel for research, or other resources necessary to create and present the new visual art project. This support aims to push the boundaries of traditional art forms and mediums, encouraging artists to explore new directions.
